Savite's 5 RBIs, 4 Hits Lead Hounds Past #17 Keystone

HAMPDEN SYDNEY, Va. --- Sophomore first baseman Charles Savite went 4-for-5 with five RBIs to lead the Moravian College baseball team to an 8-5 victory over No. 17 Keystone College on the final day of the 7th Annual Floyd B. Wilcox Memorial Tournament hosted by Hampden-Sydney College Sunday.

Savite collected four of the Greyhounds' 10 hits in the contest, and he added an RBI on each hit. Junior third baseman Ryan Luke and sophomore designated hitter Alex Bull were each 2-for-4 for Moravian with Bull driving a pair of runs and Luke crossing the plate three times. Junior outfielder Matt Hanson scored twice in the game after drawing a pair of walks.

On the mound for the Greyhounds, sophomore Hunter Guard earn his first collegiate victory after tossing 2.1 scoreless innings of relief with one strikeout and one hit. Senior closer Chris Soltys picked up his second save of the season and seventh of his career with a hit, a walk and two strikeouts in the ninth.

For the second straight day, Moravian scored in the top of the first inning, plating three runs Sunday on an RBI single from Savite and a two-RBI single by Bull. Luke doubled and Hanson walked before Savite came to the plate.

The Giants eventually tied the game with a run in the second and two more in the third.

The Hounds moved back in front in the top of the fifth inning on a two-out, two-RBI single by Savite. Junior outfielder Justin Pilchman and junior shortstop Colin Case got the inning started with back-to-back singles and both scored on Savite's hit.

 Once again, Keystone worked back to tie the game with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Moravian pulled in front for good with a pair of runs in the top half of the seventh inning on another Savite RBI single and an RBI sacrifice fly by senior outfielder Joseph Connell. Luke singled with one out and Hanson drew his second walk before both scored in the inning.

The Hounds added an insurance run in the top of the ninth as Savite hit his fourth RBI single of the game to score Luke, who had walked to lead off the inning.

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Tuesday, February 25 for a non-conference game at No. 3 Kean University beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Junior outfielder Matt Hanson (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West HS) scored twice in the game after drawing a pair of walks.

Senior closer Chris Soltys (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn HS) picked up his second save of the season and seventh of his career with a hit, a walk and two strikeouts in the ninth.
