BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College baseball team saw its 12-game winning streak end Sunday afternoon at Gillespie Field as the Greyhounds lost to Susquehanna University, 8-1, in the final game of a Landmark Conference series.

The Hounds, who took two of three games from Susquehanna this weekend, sit at 9-2 in Landmark action, and the squad is 18-5 overall with another seven games on the schedule for this coming week after playing seven contests this past week.

The Crusaders scored three times in the top of the third inning, and they added another five runs in the top half of the sixth for an 8-0 lead.

Through the first 6.1 innings, Susquehanna junior Spencer Hotaling had allowed just a walk and a runner to reach on an error. Moravian junior outfielder Matt Hanson broke up the no-hit bid with a one-out single up the middle, and sophomore first baseman Charles Savite followed with a single to right field. Junior Joey DiSarno was called on as pinch hitter, and he grounded the ball right back to Hotaling, who turn to throw to second base to start a double play. However, the throw sailed into center field allowing Hanson to score from second, breaking up the shutout bid by the Crusaders.

Susquehanna finished with an 8-2 edge in hits in the game.

Moravian started freshman Nicolas Ampietro on the mound, and he allowed three runs on four hits and seven walks while striking out three batters. Senior Jason Jamula tossed a third of an inning for the Greyhounds while sophomore Hunter Guard finished the final 3.2 innings on the mound with a pair strikeouts for the Hounds.

The Greyhounds are slated to close out their three-game Landmark series with Drew University on Monday, April 7 at 4:00 p.m. at Gillespie Field. The nine-inning contest has been postponed twice by the weather and the series is tied at 1-1.
