Solano Selected as Landmark Baseball Pitcher of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior pitcher Robert Solano has been selected as the Landmark Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for his performance Saturday.

Solano, who earned Landmark Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season, got the Greyhounds started in a Landmark Conference road series at the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday with a 2-0, two-hit shutout win. Solano faced just 23 batters in the seven-inning victory and threw just 66 pitches with three strikeouts.

Solano improved to 3-0 on the year with his first shutout since his freshman campaign in 2011. He has tossed a team high 42.1 innings this spring with 26 strikeouts and just six walks.

"Rob did a great job with a two-hitter against a very good hitting team," commented Head Coach Paul Engelhardt. "Rob's performance kept us in a game that we weren't hitting that much. We felt like we were in control the whole time even though it was only 1-0, 2-0. He only threw 66 pitches in a seven innings, so he was around the plate and staying ahead of batters the whole game. That is what we expect the senior to do and he was on Saturday."

Moravian, 22-6 overall, returns to action on Monday, April 14 when the squad hosts No. 6 Kean University in a non-conference game starting at 3:30 p.m. at Gillespie Field.
