Longernecker Named Landmark Baseball Player of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College junior infielder Alex Longernecker has been named the Landmark Conference Baseball Player of the Week for his performance last week.

Longernecker helped Moravian open its Spring Break trip to the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida with a doubleheader sweep of Heidelberg University Sunday night. Longernecker was 7-for-10 in the twinbill with two doubles, two triples, six runs scored and five RBIs. He also walked one and struck out twice in 11 plate appearances.

Longernecker tied the school record with a pair of triples in the opening game that the Hounds won 16-14 in 13 innings, tying the longest game in school history. Moravian also had a school record 63 at-bats in the contest. In the field, Longernecker had seven assists in eight chances while starting his first two games of the season at second base.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Monday, March 3 when the squad takes on No. 25 Adrian (Mich.) College at the North Charlotte Regional Park. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Florida.
