Luke Selected to D3baseball.com Team of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. --- Junior third baseman Ryan Luke of the Moravian College baseball team has been named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week for his performance last week.

Luke helped the Greyhounds, 6-3 overall, finish their trip to the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida with a 2-2 mark in the final four games last week. The first victory of the week was a 9-8, 10-inning win over then No. 25 Adrian (Mich.) College.

Luke was 9-for-16 (.563) in the four games with four doubles, five runs scored and eight RBIs. He hit safely in each game with a 3-for-5, three-RBI performance against Adrian and a 4-for-4, three-RBI, four run day in the second game of a doubleheader split with John Carroll University.

Luke also had a walk and was hit by a pitch for a .611 on-base percentage to go with a .813 slugging percentage during the week. He added a putout and 11 assists in 13 chances in the field.

"Ryan has had solid at bats all season," said eighth-year Head Coach Paul Engelhardt. "The best part is he is not only seeing the ball extremely well right now, he is letting the at-bat come to him. He hasn't forced anything. He's taking what the pitcher is giving, and doing extremely well with that pitch. Even though he is hitting the ball with power, he has also laid down a sac bunt or two, and played some small ball. Right now, he is competing at a very high level."

The Greyhounds have had several schedule changes due to the condition of Gillespie Field after the winter weather. Moravian is slated to return to action on Monday, March 17 when the squad begins its 2014 Landmark Conference season with a doubleheader versus Drew University at Diamond Nation in Flemington, New Jersey. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
