Hounds Come Up Short Against Bluffton

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. --- The Moravian College baseball team out-hit Bluffton University, 14-9, but the Beavers posted a 9-7 win at the Snowbird Classic Tuesday.

Junior shortstop Colin Case went 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored for the Greyhounds, who are 5-2 on the season after falling for the first time in four games on the Spring Break trip. Senior catcher Matthew Gutkes and junior outfielder Justin Pilchman were both 2-for-4 for Moravian while senior outfielder Joseph Connell had a 2-for-5 performance with two RBIs.

Both teams scored twice in the first inning before Bluffton took a 4-2 lead in the second. Moravian scored four times in the bottom half of the third inning for a 6-4 lead. Connell, Pilchman, sophomore first baseman Charles Savite and sophomore designated hitter Alex Bull each had RBI singles in the inning.

The Beavers answered in the top of the fourth inning to retake the lead, 7-6. The Greyhounds tied the game in the bottom of the fourth before Bluffton scored twice in the top of the eighth for the victory.

Each team would use four pitchers in the contest.

Moravian has an off day on Wednesday before returning to action on Thursday, March 6 versus Adrian (Mich.) College at 12:00 p.m. at North Charlotte Regional Park in the Snowbird Classic.
