Nicco Dalpiaz & Timothy Layng Named to 2011 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Juniors Nicco Dapliaz (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy HS) and Timothy Layng (Canton, Pa./Canton HS) of the Moravian College men's track & field team are two of 200 student-athletes from 72 NCAA Division III institutions named to the 2011 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III Men's All-Academic Team.

The USTFCCCA honors Division III individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard  in their respective event.

Dalpiaz, pictured at left, a sprinter and pole vaulter, met the provisional qualifying time in both the pole vault indoors and outdoors, and he was part of Moravian's NCAA qualifying 4x100-meter relay team outdoors. An injury at the 2011 Landmark Outdoor Championships after winning the pole vault at 4.70 meters (15 feet, five inches) and 4x100 relay in 41.61 seconds kept Dalpiaz from running at the NCAA Championships.

Layng, pictured at right, a pole vaulter, qualified for both the indoor and outdoor championships in the pole vault, and he was tenth at the indoor NCAA meet. Layng was the 2011 Landmark Conference Indoor Champion in pole vault at 4.70 meters (15 feet, five inches), and he also placed fifth at ECAC Division III Indoor Championships. Layng was the runner-up at 2011 Landmark Outdoor Championship at same height as winner, 4.70 meters, and he was second at the 2011 ECAC Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by Moravian at a height of 4.77 meters (15 feet, 7 ¾ inches).

The duo helped the men capture their fourth straight Landmark Conference Championships outdoors and third Landmark Conference Championship indoors this past spring.
