Men's Indoor Track & Field Wins 4th Landmark Conference Title in 5 Years

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's indoor track & field teams continued its dominance of the Landmark Conference Championships as the team captured its fourth championship in the five-year history of the conference Saturday.

Moravian had the Male Track Athlete of the Year in junior Donald Noble after he won the mile run with a meet and school record as well as ECAC qualifying time of 4:18.21 in the mile.  Noble also won the 5,000-meter run in 15:14.78.  First-year Moravian Head Coach Jesse Baumann along with assistant coaches David Cohen, Dustin Rommel, Mike Lawyrk and Joanna Kovacs were honored as the Men's Coaching Staff of the Year.

In addition to Noble's two titles, the Greyhounds captured five other individual events and one relay title.  Senior Steve Ambrosi won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.73 while senior Nicco Dalpiaz captured the 60-meter hurdles in an ECAC qualifying time of 8.50 seconds.  Moravian also had the winning 4x200-meter relay team with seniors Kyle D'Angelo and Timothy Layng and freshmen Travis Dorsa and Joe Wirfel that posted a time of 1:34.53.

In the field events, Layng won the pole vault with a school and meet record as well as an ECAC qualifying height of 4.96 meters (16 feet, 3 ¼ inches).  The height moved Layng up from seventh to a tie for sixth on the Track & Field Results Reporting System for the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championships in two weeks.  The top 13 men on the TFRRS list in each event will compete at the national meet.  Junior Jonathan Heberling captured the high jump at 1.88 meters (six feet, two inches) while sophomore Kristopher Joint won the triple jump with a meet record and ECAC qualifying mark of 13.68 meters (44 feet, 10 ¾ inches).  The distance is 45th on the TFRRS list, but Joint is already 28th on the list. 

Joint also placed second in the long jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 6.71 meters (22 feet, ¼ inch) while junior Travis King took second in the triple jump at 13.20 meters (43 feet, 3 ¾ inches), fifth in the high jump at 1.68 meters (five feet, six inches) and sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.30 meters (20 feet, eight inches).  Dalpiaz was the runner-up in the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying mark of 4.55 meters (14 feet, 11 inches).  The height is also tied for 44th on the TFRRS list but Dalpiaz is at 34th already.

On the track, D'Angelo finished second in the 200-meter dash in 23.21 seconds while Dalpiaz took fourth in the 60-meter dash in 7.21 seconds and fourth in the 200-meter dash in 23.71 seconds.  Ambrosi was fourth in the 400-meter dash in 55.47 seconds while sophomore Craig Arner finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.52 seconds.  Senior Matthew Lutcza was third in the mile run in an ECAC qualifying time of 4:20.50, which is the fourth fastest time in school history and was also faster than the previous meet record, and Lutcza was fifth in the 5,000-meter run in 15:40.43.  Freshman Dillon Farrell took fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:23.51, and he was third in the 5,000-meter run in 15:27.16.

In the throwing events, sophomore Timothy Lorah placed third in the shot put at 13.01 meters (42 feet, 8 ¼ inches) and fourth in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 13.30 meters (43 feet, 7 ¾ inches).  Junior Tyler Potterton was fifth in the weight throw at 13.23 meters (43 feet, five inches).

All of the student-athletes that won events also earned Landmark All-Conference First Team honors while those that finished as the runner-up in an event or relay were named to the Landmark All-Conference Second Team.

Moravian will have a last chance for competitors to move up the TFRRS list next Friday and Saturday, March 2nd and 3rd as those that have qualified will compete at the 2012 ECAC Division III Indoor Championships hosted by Rutgers University-Newark at the New York City Armory.
