Men's Track & Field Claims 5th Straight Landmark Conference Title

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team captured its fifth straight Landmark Conference Outdoor Championship with four individual and one relay champion on the second day of the meet Sunday at Timothy Breidegam Track & Rocco Calvo Field.  Freshman Dillon Farrell was also honored as the Men's Rookie of the Year.

The Greyhounds finished the meet with 233 points, holding off a charge from Susquehanna University, which placed second at 196.5 points.  Juniata College was third with 138 points while The United States Merchant Marine Academy took fourth at 103.5 points. Rounding out the field were Goucher College in fifth with 60 points and The Catholic University of America in sixth with 33 points.

Junior Travis King and senior Nicco Dalpiaz each played a part in two titles on Sunday. King won the triple jump for the third straight year with a Landmark outdoor meet record distance of 14.02 meters (46 feet) while Dalpiaz captured the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.37 seconds.  The duo joined with seniors Kyle D'Angelo and Timothy Layng to win the 4x100-meter relay in 43.02 seconds.  Moravian's other two individual champions were junior Jonathan Heberling in the high jump at 1.88 meters (six feet, two inches) and senior Steve Ambrosi in the 800-meter run for the second consecutive year with a meet record time of 1:54.02.

The Greyhounds scored a total of 21 points in the triple jump with sophomore Kristopher Joint finishing as the runner-up to King at 13.96 meters (45 feet, 9 3/4 inches) and freshman Chris Ossont placing sixth at 12.83 meters (42 feet, 1 1/4 inches). Senior Jordan Barton was ninth in the event with a distance of 12.06 meters (39 feet, seven inches).

Moravian would net 16 points in the javelin with senior Gary Zack placing second at 59.74 meters (196 feet) on his only throw of the day after competing in the championship flight at the Penn Relays on Saturday. Junior Tyler Potterton took third at 59.65 meters (195 feet, eight inches) while Dalpiaz finished seventh at 41.93 meters (137 feet, seven inches).

Joint would help the Greyhounds pick up a total of 16 points in the high jump as he placed third behind Heberling at 1.78 meters (five feet, ten inches).  Moravian would also score ten points in the hammer throw with senior Michael Facchiano finishing fifth at 40.68 meters (133 feet, five inches) and sophomore Phillip Torres taking seventh at 35.85 meters (117 feet, seven inches).

On the track, Moravian scored 14 points in both the 400-meter hurdles and the 5,000-meter run.  In the hurdles, junior Vincent McDowell placed second at 56.79 seconds while junior Evan Lick was third in 57.03 seconds. Senior Matthew Lutcza was the runner-up in the 5,000-meter run in 15:00.75 while Farrell was third in 15:08.18.

The Greyhounds picked up 13 points in the 200-meter dash as D'Angelo finished third in 22.90 seconds, Dalpiaz took fourth in 23.44 seconds and freshman Travis Dorsa placed seventh in 23.87 seconds. The trio also placed in the top eight of the 100-meter dash to gain eight points with Dalpiaz in fifth place in 11.31 seconds, D'Angelo in sixth at 11.39 seconds and Dorsa in eighth at 11.90 seconds.  Dorsa also scored a point for Moravian in the 400-meter dash.

Freshman Mike Hofmann was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 19.48 to help Moravian score 13 points in the event while freshman Alec Duncan finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:09.23 to give the Greyhounds six points.  Moravian's final eight points of the day came from the runner-up finish by D'Angelo, Dorsa, Lick and Ambrosi in the 4x400-meter relay, the final event of the meet.

Moravian is not scheduled to return to action until Monday, May 7 in a Last Chance Meet at Swarthmore College.
