Donald Noble Sets School Record in 5K to Lead Moravian at ECAC Championships

NEW YORK, N.Y. --- Senior Donald Noble ran a school record time and placed third in the 5,000-meter run to lead the Moravian College men's indoor track & field team on the opening day of the 2012 ECAC Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Rutgers-Newark at the New York City Armory Friday.

The Greyhounds are tied for ninth of 30 teams scoring a point through six events on the first day of competition.  Moravian, Williams College and UMass-Dartmouth each have nine team points while Bates College is first with 28 points and The College of New Jersey is second with 21 points.

Noble scored six points for Moravian with his record time of 14:36.23, which moves him to 15th on the Track & Field Results Reporting List (TFRRS) for next weekend's NCAA Division III National Championships. Freshman Dillon Farrell was 12th in the 5,000-meters with a time of 14:56.13, the fifth best time in school history while senior Matthew Lutcza ran a time of 15:03.06, which is the sixth fastest in the Moravian record books and placed him 17th in the race.

Senior Nicco Dalpiaz was tied for fourth in his heat and tied for sixth overall in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.44 seconds to qualify for Saturday's championship race. Dalpiaz also cleared 4.41 meters (14 feet, 5 1/2 inches) to tie for 15th in the pole vault.

Senior Timothy Layng cleared 4.71 meters (15 feet, 5 1/2 inches) in the pole vault to earn Moravian a point with an eighth place finish while sophomore Kristopher Joint scored the Greyhounds other two points when he turned in a seventh place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 14.03 meters (46 feet, 1/2 inch) .  Junior Travis King placed 12th with a distance of 13.76 meters (45 feet, 1 3/4 inches) in the triple jump.

Moravian is scheduled to have six student-athletes compete in the second day of the meet on Saturday with Noble, Farrell & Lutcza competing in the mile run, Dalpiaz in the 60-meter hurdle finals, Joint in the long jump and senior Steve Ambrosi in the 800-meter run.
