Layng Earns All-America Honors; Ambrosi Advances to Final in 800 at NCAA Indoor Championships

GRINNELL, Iowa --- Senior Timothy Layng  of the Moravian College men's indoor track & field team earned All-America for the first time in his career in the pole vault Friday at the 2012 NCAA Division III Infoor National Championships being hosted by Grinnell (Iowa) College. 

Layng was seventh as he tied his school record set two weeks ago at the Landmark Conference Championships, clearing 4.96 meters (16 feet, 3 ¼ inches).  Layng earned Moravian two team points with his seventh place finish.  Sophomore Josh Winder from North Central College won the event at 5.16 meters (16 feet, 11 inches).

Senior Steve Ambrosi has a chance to become Moravian's third All-American of the meet after senior Abby Schaffer was the runner-up in the women's pole vault on Saturday in the 800-meter run.  In the first heat of Friday's preliminaries, Ambrosi was third, and he was fourth overall in the two heats to advance to the finals.  Ambrosi, who is competing at the NCAA Championships for the first time in his career, ran a time of 1:53.22, which was the top time after the four automatic qualifiers into the finals, and the fourth fastest overall of the 13 runners in the race.  Ambrosi will run in the finals at 4:55 p.m. CST on Saturday. Ambrosi's time was third fastest in school history.
