Layng Finishes 5th at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --- Senior Timothy Layng (Canton, Pa./Canton HS) of the Moravian College men's outdoor track & field team finished fifth in the College Men's Pole Vault College flight in the Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field Friday.

Layng cleared 4.80 meters (15 feet, nine inches) in his first attempt at the height to place fifth of nine competitors in the field.  Layng was the only non-NCAA Division I competitor in the field, and he took two attempts to clear the opening height of 4.65 meters (15 feet, three inches).  Layng was unable to clear 4.95 meters in his three attempts at the height. Joseph Caraway from Louisiana State University won the flight at 5.15 meters (16 feet, 10 3/4 inches).

Layng is scheduled to return to action on Saturday and Sunday, April 28 and 29 as Moravian hosts the 2012 Landmark Conference Championships at Timothy Breidegam Track and Rocco Calvo Field. Layng is the defending conference champion in the men's pole vault.
