Top 10 Stories of 2020-21 - #2 Angle, Hummel, Jaindl & Wehr Named Landmark Conference Athletes of the Year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University is continuing its look back at its 2020-21 athletic campaign. The next entry in our countdown– the Top 10 Stories of the Year selected by the athletic administration – is our No. 2 highlight – senior Emma Angle, sophomore Madison Hummel, graduate student Greg Jaindl and senior Brooke Wehr all being named as Landmark Conference Athletes of the Year.

Angle became the fourth Greyhound women's tennis player to earn Landmark Conference Player of the Year accolades after helping Moravian win its second straight Landmark Conference title and earn a first round win in the 2021 NCAA Division III Tournament. The Greyhounds finished the year at 11-1 overall and 7-0 in Landmark Conference action. Angle also garnered Landmark All-Conference First Team honors in singles for the second time, making the First Team in 2019, and she was a member of the All-Conference Second Team in singles in 2018. This spring also saw Angle make the All-Conference First Team in doubles with her twin sister Mary after the duo posted an 8-4 mark in 2021. Playing at first singles, Angle had a career mark of 34-12 that included a 10-1 record in 2021.

Jaindl was selected as the 2021 Landmark Conference Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year after winning the 1,500-meter run, the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the second time in his career. Jaindl also captured the 5,000-meter run to earn Landmark All-Conference First Team honors in all three races. Jaindl won Moravian's seventh Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year award, and his is the fifth student-athlete to win the honor with Donnie Noble '13 and John Spirk '19 both winning twice. Later in May, Jaindl finished third in the nation in the steeplechase to earn All-America accolades for the first time in his career.

Hummel and Wehr helped the Greyhound softball squad to its ninth Landmark Conference title this spring as the Hounds went 31-3 overall including a 22-0 mark in the Landmark Conference regular season. Moravian set program records for fewest losses in a season with three and highest winning percentage at .912. Hummel, who was selected as the Landmark Conference Softball Pitcher of the Year and to the All-Conference First Team, posted a 15-2 mark in the circle this year for the Greyhounds, and she had a 1.66 ERA with five shutouts, 12 complete games in 18 starts and 50 strikeouts in 105.2 innings of action. Hummel is the seventh Hound to win Landmark Conference Pitcher with Jenna Carmon '12 and Josie Novak '18 each winning the honor three times.

Wehr, who was selected to the 2021 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-America Third Team as well as the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America First Team, was named the Landmark Conference Softball Player of the Year and made the Landmark All-Conference First Team for the third time, twice as a catcher in 2021 and 2019 and as an outfielder in 2018. Wehr led Moravian with a .491 batting average to go with 55 hits, 37 runs, 13 doubles, five triples, seven homers, 44 RBIs, 11 walks, four stolen bases, a .535 on-base percentage and a .884 slugging percentage. Wehr, who is a three-time selection to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region Team, making the Second Team in 2021 and Third Team in 2019 and 2018, also had 148 putouts and nine assists in 158 chances in the field, and she had one pickoff and threw out two-of-seven stolen base attempts in 2021. Wehr is the seventh Greyhound to win the Landmark Conference Player of the Year honor with Jenn Dalickas '15 winning twice.
