Moravian Announces 2022 Senior Award Winners

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University honored its 2022 senior student-athletes with its Senior Athlete Award Ceremony at Prosser Auditorium Thursday afternoon. Softball standout Brooke Wehr selected as the Outstanding Senior Female Athlete while baseball player Eddie Olsen was honored with the Outstanding Senior Male Athlete. The Blue & Grey Scholar Athlete awards were presented to women's soccer student-athlete Alexa Brown and men's track & field/cross country runner Shane Houghton. The H.T.D. Gillespie Award for outstanding service to Moravian's athletics program was presented to Assistant Women's Basketball Coach Amy Endler '93.

Wehr, a five-year member of the softball squad, is hitting .364 this spring for the Greyhounds with 43 hits, 25 runs, 24 RBIs, five doubles, three triples and seven homers. She has appeared in 156 career games with 220 hits, which ranks second in program history, to go with 555 at-bats (third), 167 runs (second), 36 doubles (tied for fifth), 11 triples (tied for third), 36 home runs (school record), 146 RBIs (third all-time), 386 total bases (school record), 37 walks and 17 stolen bases with a .396 career batting average (seventh) and a .695 slugging percentage (third) at the plate. In the field, she has 475 putouts, 30 assists, nine runners caught stealing and a .990 fielding percentage (seventh). Wehr, who was named the Moravian Outstanding Athlete at the Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate of Athletics for Women on Tuesday, was selected to the 2021 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III All-America Third Team and the College Sports Information Directors of America Division III Academic All-America First Team. She was the 2021 Landmark Conference Player of the Year and was named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team in 2018, 2019 and 2021. Wehr is a three-time member of the NFCA Division III All-Atlantic Region Teams, making the Second Team in 2021 and the Third Team in 2018 and 2019. She is also a four-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll. She has helped Moravian to a 28-4 record this season that included a 10-2 mark in Landmark Conference action that has the squad as the second seed for the 2022 Landmark Conference Tournament at Susquehanna University on May 8.

Olsen has had an outstanding career on the mound for Greyhounds, and he also played football for two seasons at Moravian. This spring, Olsen is 3-3 with a save in 11 appearances including nine starts to go along with a team highs of 40 strikeouts in 57.1 innings. He has made 38 trips to the mound during his career with 28 starts to go with a 13-11 record, two saves and seven complete games. Olsen, who was named to the 2021 Landmark All-Conference First Team, is seventh in school history with 137 strikeouts, and he ranks tenth with 169 innings on the hill. Moravian, which is 22-17 this season, is slated to close out the 2022 regular season on Saturday, May 7 with a Landmark Conference game at The University of Scranton beginning at 1:00 p.m. In his two seasons on the gridiron, Olsen caught 39 passes for 565 yards and six touchdowns, and he had a career-long reception of 84 yards for a score in 2019 while playing in a total of 16 games.

Brown, a defender, was named to the 2021 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Women's Soccer Third Team for NCAA Division III schools. Brown was also named to the Landmark All-Conference First Team last fall as she contributed a goal, which was a game-winning goal, and two assists, and Brown also helped Moravian post eight shutouts in 2021. During her career, Brown started 42 of 43 matches, and she netted three goals and added two assists with two of the three goals winning contests. Defensively, Brown helped the Greyhounds post 20 shutouts in her four seasons. Off the pitch, Brown has maintained a 4.00 GPA as a health sciences major with a focus on pre-physical therapy. She has been named to Moravian's Dean's Honors List seven times during her collegiate career, and Brown is also a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society for freshmen. She is a three-time selection to the Landmark Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll as well. Brown is a member of the Pre-Health Club and serves as a 26 Points Ambassador at Moravian, giving tours to prospective students.

Houghton runs distance events for both the cross country and track & field squads for the Greyhounds. Last fall, he crossed the finish line with the best time of his career for 8,000 meters, posting a time of 25:33.0 to place 204th of 289 runners at the 2021 NCAA Division III National Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. Houghton garnered All-Region honors after finishing sixth in the NCAA Division III Metro Regional. This past February, he was third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:47.01, which was better than the previous best in the Landmark Indoor Championships. Currently, Houghton has the nation's 47th best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 9:29.71, which is the top time in the conference heading into this weekend's outdoor championship meet. When he's not running, Houghton has maintained a 3.81 GPA as a computer science major with a minor in mathematics. He has been on Moravian's Dean's Honors List six times in his career, and Houghton is also a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and has been honored on the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll six times.

Endler, who is a member of Moravian's Hall of Fame for her outstanding playing career on the hardwood, has continued to give back after graduation. Endler recently completed her 20th season as an Assistant Women's Basketball Coach, and she served as Moravian's Head Field Hockey Coach for 14 years. In addition, Endler is an avid fan of all of the Greyhounds' athletic programs and attends many sporting events on campus every year. She also currently serves as the Blue and Grey Female Team Chair on the Executive Committee.
