No. 20 Greyhounds Sweep Lebanon Valley in 2025 Home Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The No. 20 Moravian University softball squad swept Lebanon Valley College, 3-0 and 4-3, in non-conference action at Blue & Grey Field Tuesday as the Greyhounds began their 2025 home schedule.

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The opener was a pitchers' duel until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Hounds scored all three of their runs in the contest. Senior first baseman Lindsey Gawrys drew a one-out walk before sophomore Cassandra Farrell came in to pinch run. Junior catcher Marcie Silberman followed with a double down into the right field corner to put runners on second and third before sophomore Madelin Cooper was called on to pinch run. After senior left fielder Sage Snyder walked to load the bases, sophomore right fielder Kyra Holtje ripped a two-RBI single up the middle to plate Farrell and Cooper. Graduate student second baseman Ajala Elmore added an RBI infield single to chase Snyder home
  • Junior Sarah DeStefano tossed her third shutout of the season in the circle, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out a career-high ten batters

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Blue & Grey jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in the second game. Gawrys singled with two outs before Silberman launched a two-run homer to center field, her fourth home run of the season
  • Moravian added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning as Silberman connected on a solo home run to left center field. It was her fifth homer of the season and the 27th of her career, and Silberman has now hit two home runs in a game three times in her career
  • The Flying Dutchmen scored their first runs of the doubleheader in the top of the seventh with three runs to knot the score at 3-3
  • The Greyhounds would walk off with the victory in the bottom of the seventh frame. Elmore singled with two outs and beat the throw to second base on a fielder's choice by junior third baseman Sydney Andrews. DeStefano ripped an RBI single through the right side as Elmore beat the throw to the plate
  • Holtje earned the win in the circle as struck out three batters to improve to 2-0 on the year

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 13 hits in the doubleheader with Silberman going 3-for-5 with two runs, three RBIs, a double and two homers
  • Elmore was 3-for-6 with a run and an RBI while Gawrys went 2-for-5 with a run
  • Snyder had a hit and a run while DeStefano added a hit and an RBI and Holtje had a hit and two RBIs
  • Andrews and sophomore center fielder Shayla Morgan both had one hit while Farrell and Cooper both touched the plate once
