BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The No. 13 Moravian University softball squad fell to visiting The Catholic University of America, 5-2 and 4-1, in Landmark Conference action Friday on Senior Day at Blue & Grey Field to close out the 2025 regular season.
How It Happened – Game #1
- The opener was a pitcher's duel with throughout the first five innings. The Hounds left two runners on in the first inning while the Cardinals left the bases loaded in the top of the sixth
- The Blue & Grey got onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth frame. Junior catcher Marie Silberman laced a double off the wall in right center before sophomore Cassandra Farrell came in to pinch run. Graduate student second baseman Ajala Elmore lifted a fly ball deep down the right field line with Farrell tagging up and scoring from second base on the sacrifice fly
- Catholic answered with five runs in the top of the seventh to pull ahead 5-1
- Moravian scored once in the seventh and had the tying run at the plate when the game ended. Sophomore designated player Kyra Holtje and junior third baseman Sydney Andrews had singles to begin the inning. After a fielder's choice, Andrews moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior shortstop Holly Walter
- Junior Sarah DeStefano suffered just her second loss of the season in the circle as she struck out four
- Prior to the game, the Greyhounds honored seniors Jessica Forder, Lindsey Gawrys, Ren Herschman, Jenna Lenko, Sage Snyder and Holly Walter
How It Happened – Game #2
- The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the second game
- Moravian countered with a run in the bottom of the second frame. Elmore drew a leadoff walk and scored on an Andrews sacrifice fly
- Catholic plated two runs in the top of the third to finish the scoring in the game
- Holtje tossed the first two-plus innings of the game while junior Natalie Otto had three strikeouts in five innings of work
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian was limited to 11 hits on the day with Holtje going 3-for-6 with three hits in the opener
- Silberman added two hits with a double while Elmore and Andrews each had a hit, a run and an RBI
- Walter and Gawrys both collected one hit with Walter adding an RBI while DeStefano and Morgan each added one hit
- Farrell score once for the Hounds
