Moravian Women Capture 13th Indoor Landmark Conference Indoor Title

LANDOVER, Md. --- The Moravian University women's indoor track & field squad captured the 2025 Landmark Conference Indoor Championship by 28 points as the program won its 13th Landmark indoor title and 27th overall indoor crown Saturday at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex.

Landmark Conference Championships

  • The Greyhounds captured their 13th Landmark Conference Indoor Championship and first since 2020
  • The title was Moravian's 27th indoor title in program history. The Hounds also have 27 outdoor conference championships including 14 since the Landmark Conference began competition in 2007-08

How It Happened

  • Moravian recorded 145 points while The Catholic University of America was second with 117
  • The Blue & Grey won five individual titles of the 17 events
  • The Greyhounds also recorded 12 All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference qualifying marks
  • Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann and his assistant coaches - Jonathan D'Ottavio (throws), Molly Sear (jumps), Beth Ann Davies (pole vault), Ryan Harper (throws), Sean McFarland (sprints), David Scheck (hurdles) - were named the 2025 Landmark Conference Women's Indoor Coaching Staff of the Year

Moravian Event Winners

  • Junior Tara Smurla began the meet with a first-place finish in the 5,000-meter run in an AARTFC qualifying time of 18:21.43
  • Smurla also captured the 3,000-meter run with an AARTFC qualifying time of 10:19.56
  • Junior Ali Haefele tied for first in the high jump with an AARTFC qualifying height of 1.60 meters (5-3)
  • Junior Karalyn Vashey captured the 20-pound weight throw with a school record and AARTFC qualifying distance of 16.18 meters (53-1)
  • Junior Margie Rayne won the shot put with an AARTFC qualifying and PR toss of 12.67 meters (41-7) in the final throwing event

Moravian Top 8 Scoring Finishers

  • Rayne was the runner-up in the 20-pound weight throw with an AARTFC qualifying and PR toss of 14.76 meters (48-5.25) while senior Caillie Fish finished third with an AARTFC qualifying and PR distance of 14.76 meters (48-5.25), junior Heather Adams took fourth with a PR toss of 14.32 meters (46-11.75) and senior Liz Miskovsky was sixth with a PR mark of 14.13 meters (46-4.25)
  • Senior Abby Giamoni took second in the 400-meter dash with an AARTFC qualifying time of 58.09 seconds while sophomore Rachele Grigoli was seventh in 1:00.88
  • Giamoni was also third in the 200-meter dash in an AARTFC qualifying time of 25.89 seconds, which bettered the previous meet record
  • Freshman Emma Shafnisky ran an AARTFC qualifying and PR time of 9.16 seconds in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles to finish third after she had a time of 9.37 seconds to head to the finals in fourth
  • The Hounds distance medley relay squad of seniors Rachael Goodman, Rylie Murphy and Amber Poniktera and freshman Emerson Beamer placed third in a time of 13:11.51
  • Moravian's 4x400-meter relay finished third in the final race on the track with the quartet of Beamer, Giamoni, Grigoli and junior Shai Knight posting a time of 4:10.11
  • Shafnisky was fourth in the long jump at a distance of 5.20 meters (17-0.75) while Haefele finished sixth at a mark of 5.17 meters (16-11.5)
  • Haefele placed fourth in the triple jump with an AARTFC qualifying mark of 10.94 meters (35-10.75) while freshman Bella Fiore was seventh at 10.35 meters (33-11.5)
  • Senior Mikayla Woodring took fourth in the shot put with a PR toss of 11.31 meters (37-1.25) while Vashey finished at 11.08 meters (36-4.25)
  • Freshman Tessa Hopkins placed fifth in the pole vault at a height of 2.93 meters (9-7.25)
  • The Greyhounds' 4x200-meter relay team of Beamer, Grigoli and freshmen Katelyn Davis and Erika Dietz finished fifth in a time of 1:51.12
  • Sophomore Kayla O'Neil finished sixth in the 5,000-meter run in a PR time of 19:22.84
  • Giamoni was eighth in the finals of the 60-meter dash in a time of 8.82 seconds after qualifying third with an AARTFC qualifying and PR time of 7.88 seconds
