Women's Tennis Post Strong 1st Day at USTA-ITA Regional

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --- The Moravian College women's tennis team began the 2013 USTA-ITA Southeast Regional Women's Tennis Championships hosted by the University of Mary Washington with three singles and two doubles wins in the first round before rain washed out the rest of the day Saturday.

The morning started with doubles action. In the Blue 1 Doubles Draw, seniors Melissa Follett and Erica Venuti posted an 8-5 win over Micjaela Dowd and Ashley Price from Mary Washington, while senior Katie Zien and freshman Brittney Eady had an 8-5 victory over Linnea Peters and Kendra Tetick of Griove City College in the Blue 2 Doubles Draw.

In singles action that started around 11 a.m., Eady earned a 6-4, 6-1 win versus Gyeyeon Yang of Washington College in the Blue 1 Singles Draw while Follett defeated Brittany Wilson from Bridgewater College, 6-3, 6-2 in the Blue 2 Singles Draw. Zien posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Epiphany English in the Blue 3 Singles Draw while Venuti suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Tetrick in the Blue 4 singles Draw.

Rain forced the second round off to Sunday at 8:00 a.m. when the two doubles teams as well as Eady, Follett and Zien will move onto the second round. Venuti will play in the consolation bracet of the Blue 4 Singles Draw as well on Sunday.
