Greyhounds Top Mules, 8-1, to Finish Fall Undefeated at 7-0

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's tennis team finished off its undefeated fall season with an 8-1 win at rival Muhlenberg College Thursday.

The Greyhounds are 7-0 heading to the break between the seasons, and the victory also gives Moravian a 2-1 lead over Muhlenberg in the annual Matte Award standings for 2013-14.

"This was a big win for the seniors," stated Head Coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner.

Moravian jumped out to a 2-1 lead in doubles. Freshmen Julia Atiyeh and Selina Ocasio opened the scoring with an 8-2 victory at third doubles while senior Katie Zien and freshman Brittney Eady put the Greyhounds ahead for good with an 8-4 win at second doubles.

In singles action, Moravian won all six contests with five of the victories coming in straight sets. Eady posted a 6-4, 6-4 win at second singles while Zien had the winning fifth team point with her 6-3, 6-2 victory at third singles. Senior Erica Venuti earned a 6-4, 6-4 triumph in fourth singles while Ocasio posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at fifth singles. Sophomore Courtnie Lambert won at sixth singles with a 6-3, 6-0 score while senior Melissa Follett earned a three-set win at first singles, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9).

"What a way to end the fall season by beating Muhlenberg," Venuti said.

 Moravian will begin its 2014 spring season with a trip to Tampa, Florida with a match versus Ohio Northern University on Tuesday, March 4.
