Eady earns Landmark Conference Player of the Week

TOWSON, Md. – Freshman Brittney Eady of the Moravian College women's tennis team has been named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week after a 4-0 performance in singles and doubles action for the period ending on Oct. 6.

The Greyhounds finished the fall portion of the 2013-14 season 7-0 after 8-1 wins over East Stroudsburg and Muhlenberg College last week. In the East Stroudsburg match, Eady earned an easy 6-0, 6-2 win at second singles after teaming up with her partner, senior Katie Zien, for an 8-1 victory at second doubles.

Against rival Muhlenberg in a 2013-14 Matte Award match, Eady and Zien were triumphant 8-4 in second doubles to help the Greyhounds finish doubles competition with a 2-1 lead against the Mules. The freshman then did her part in the solo clash, beating her Muhlenberg opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

"Brittney trained very hard over the summer to prepare for the fall season and it paid off," said head coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner of her star freshman, who was recruited by Temple University and other NCAA Division I and II schools. "Fortunately, she fell in love with Moravian – its location, the faculty and players she met, and her Moravian Admissions Counselor. At ITA's, several coaches commented on her speed, determination and consistent hitting. She and the other freshmen we recruited are the shining stars who will continue to keep Moravian tennis strong in the future."

Eady improved to 8-1 overall in both singles and doubles play this season, including perfect 7-0 marks in dual matches. The freshman is 3-0 at the second singles position, and has accumulated a 4-0 record at third singles this fall.

Eady and Greyhounds head into the winter break undefeated. The spring season kicks off with a trip to Tampa, Fla. on March 3-7. Moravian returns to the Hoffman Courts on Saturday, March 15 with the opening of Landmark Conference play against Goucher College at 1 p.m.
