Moravian Finishes Trip to USTA-ITA Southeast Regional

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --- Four members of the Moravian College women's tennis team finished their trip to the 2013 USTA-ITA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Mary Washington Sunday.

Senior Melissa Follett opened the day with an 8-2 win over Tara Buchney from Franklin & Marshall College in the quarterfinals of the Blue 2 Singles Draw, and Follett followed that up with an 8-5 win over Claudia Lohn from Salisbury University in the semifinals. Follett fell to Savanna Demonesquio from Johns Hopkins University, 8-5, in the final match of the draw.

Senior Erica Venuti started the day in the consolation bracket of the Blue 4 Singles Draw, and she defeated Danni Yaron of Muhlenberg College, 8-1, in the first round. Venuti then defeated Hannah Parent from Virginia Wesleyan College, 8-1, in the consolation semifinals before falling to Melissa Tomlin from Randolph-Macon College, 8-5, in the final.

In the Blue 1 Singles Draw, freshman Brittney Eady lost to Berri Flood from Mary Washington, 9-7, in the quarterfinals while senior Katie Zien dropped an 8-4 decision to Reed Kegel of Roanoke College, in the quarterfinals of the Blue 3 Singles Draw.

Both of Moravian's doubles teams suffered losses in the quarterfinals on Sunday after their opening round victories on Saturday. Follett and Venuti fell to Karolina Lagerquist and Caroline McGuire from Grove City College, 8-6, in the Blue 1 Doubles Draw while Eady and Zien lost to Buchney and Dana Sleeper from F&M, 8-5, in the Blue 2 Doubles Draw.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 28 when they host Bryn Mawr College in a non-conference match starting at 11:00 a.m. at Hoffman Courts.
