Ketterman-Benner Named 2013 USTA Middle States and Eastern Pennsylvania District Coach of the Year

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. --- Moravian College Head Women's Tennis Coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner has been named the 2013 Edwin J. Faulkner College Coach of the Year and the 2013 Eastern Pennsylvania District (EPD) College Coach of the Year by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Middle States Section.

The Edwin J. Faulkner Coach of the Year is presented annually to both a high school and college coach who either resides or coaches in the Section or is a USTA Middle States member. From 1977 until 2002, there was just one award but in 2003 it was split into two awards, one for high school and one for college. The award is named after Edwin J. Faulkner, the legendary Swarthmore College and Davis Cup coach, and member of the MS Hall of Fame. This award is for a coach who demonstrates enthusiasm, a sense of true team camraderie, and has brought success to the community.

Ketterman-Benner, who was also named the Edwin J. Faulkner Coach of the Year in 1999 and the EPD Coach of the Year in 2000 & 2007, is in her 28th season as Moravian's coach with a career mark of 281-113 to go with 11 conference championships and a pair of berths to the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament in 2007 and 2011. Ketterman-Benner also earned the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Community Service Award for the Middle States Tennis Association in 2004 and the Middle States/EPD Award for Courage in 2009.

"Dawn's record speaks for itself," said Director of Athletics Scot Dapp. "Year-in and year-out her teams are at or near the top of the Conference."

Ketterman-Benner has led the Greyhounds to a 7-0 record during the fall portion of their 2013-14 season, and the squad is slated to resume action on Tuesday, March 4 with a match versus Ohio Northern University at the University of Tampa during the program's spring break trip.

"I am honored to receive these outstanding coaching awards from two tennis organizations that have inspired, supported, and encouraged me throughout my coaching career," stated Ketterman-Benner. "I have been truly blessed through the years to work with incredible student-athletes and assistant coaches who have helped to make Moravian College Tennis a strong and enduring Division III program. My deepest appreciation and thanks to those who nominated and selected me for these awards that I will always treasure."

The USTA Middle States Eastern Pennsylvania District Award Ceremony will be held in Moravian's Haupert Union Building on Sunday, January 19. For more information, contact Barbara VanBuskirk at tennis512000@hotmail.com.
