SCRANTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's tennis team was one serve away from remaining unbeaten in Landmark Conference action in a battle of conference's undefeated teams Tuesday but it was The University of Scranton that rallied for a 5-4 victory in the contest.
The Greyhounds had led the contest, 2-1, after the doubles action was complete. Seniors Melissa Follett and Erica Venuti had an 8-4 victory at first doubles while freshman Brittney Eady and senior Katie Zien won their second doubles match, 8-3.
Follett earned a straight sets victory at first singles while Zien also won in straight set at third singles to give the Greyhounds four points. Sophomore Courtnie Lambert was able to force a third set in her sixth singles contest before falling in the match.
The match came down to the second singles spot. Eady won her opening set, 6-2, and held a 5-0 lead in the second set to just need one point to secure the team victory. Eady had a 40-love lead in that sixth and deciding game before Scranton's Devon Cohen rallied for seven straight points to win the second set, 7-5. Cohen would go on to capture the third set, 6-3, and help the Royals to the victory.
Moravian is scheduled to return home on Saturday, April 12 when the squad hosts Susquehanna University in a Landmark match beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Hoffman Courts. The Greyhounds will be celebrating Senior Day and Alumni Day on Saturday as well.
