Women's Tennis Shuts Out Drew, 9-0

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's tennis team remained undefeated in Landmark Conference action Saturday with a 9-0 sweep of Drew University at Hoffman Courts.

The Greyhounds, now 10-2 on the season and 2-0 in conference action, yielded just two points in doubles action to jump out to the 3-0 lead. Seniors Melissa Follett and Erica Venuti posted an 8-2 win at first doubles while the tandems of senior Katie Zien and freshman Brittney Eady at second doubles and freshmen Julia Atiyeh and Selina Ocasio at third doubles each had 8-0 victories.

"I've told the team that we are on a journey to the top of the mountain this season, and today was another step in that journey," stated Head Coach Dawn Ketterman-Benner.

Moravian carried the momentum into singles action as the squad allowed the Rangers to win just 11 of 83 games played while earning six straight-sets victories. Follett had a 6-2, 6-1 win at first singles while Eady captured a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at second singles. Zien posted a pair of 6-0 scores to win her third singles match while Venuti had a 6-1, 6-0 victory at fourth singles. Ocasio won 6-1, 6-1 at fifth singles while sophomore Courtnie Lambert had a 6-1, 6-0 win in sixth singles.

"I was very happy with how the team played in the gusty wind this afternoon," said Zein, the team's captain this season.

The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Tuesday, March 25 when the squad welcomes Alvernia University to Hoffman Courts for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference match.
