Leonard Wins a Pair of Events at Lehigh Season Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's indoor track & field team had three individual even winners and one relay team capture first place at the non-scoring Lehigh University Season Opener Friday evening at the Rausch Fieldhouse in Bethlehem to begin the 2012-13 season.

Senior Micah Leonard won the long jump with a career long leap of 5.61 meters (18 feet, five inches), the second longest jump in school history, and she also captured first in the triple jump at a career best 11.69 meters (38 feet, 4 ¼ inches), also the second best distance in school history.  Freshman Christelle Reglas took third in the long jump at 4.88 meters (16 feet, ¼ inch) while sophomore Giana Vecchio was seventh at 4.29 meters (14 feet, one inch).

Junior Allison Vanek won the pole vault at 3.65 meters (11 feet, 11 ¾ inches) while sophomore Hailey Kester was the runner-up at 3.50 meters (11 feet, 5 ¾ inches).  Sophomore Dana Fineman took seventh clearing a height 3.20 meters (ten feet, six inches) while junior Amanda Smilgis was eighth in the pole vault at 3.05 meters (ten feet).

In the sprints, sophomore Brianna Wright was third in the 60-meter dash in 8.10 seconds while sophomore Morgan Redmond took fifth in 8.25 seconds.  Freshman Corinne Glass was sixth in 8.34 seconds while sophomore Brielle Sutter tied for seventh at 8.36 seconds in the 60-meter dash.  Sutter was the runner-up in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.76 while Wright took sixth in 1:03:39 and Glass finished seventh in a time of 1:03.55.  Freshman Christelle Reglas was sixth in the 200-meter dash for the Greyhounds in 28.28 seconds.

The Greyhounds won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:10.04 with Wright, Sutter, Redmond and Glass combining on the victory.

Redmond was second in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.68 seconds while senior Nokukhanya Langa was third in 10.09 seconds and junior Jacqueline Olmstead was seventh in 10.66 seconds.  Sophomore Devon Bedell was eighth in the 800-meter run in 2:45.92. 

In the throws, sophomore Jenny Kratch was fifth in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 12.34 meters (40 feet, six inches), and she placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 10.31 meters (33 feet, ten inches).  Freshman Tyler Clore was ninth in the shot put at 9.56 meters (31 feet, 4 ½ inches).

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Orange & Maroon Classic hosted by Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove.
