Greyhounds Capture 6th Straight Landmark Indoor Title

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's indoor track & field team captured its sixth consecutive Landmark Conference championship and the program's 20th indoor conference title by winning the 2013 Landmark Conference meet hosted by Susquehanna University Saturday.

The Greyhounds had a team score of 176, leading the host Crusaders by 49 points as Susquehanna earned 127 points. The Catholic University of America and Juniata College finished in a tie for third with 76 points each.

Moravian was led individually by senior Micah Leonard, who was named the Field Athlete of the Meet for the third straight year. Leonard captured the triple jump title for the fourth consecutive year with a meet record and ECAC qualifying mark of 11.66 meters (38 feet, 3 ¼ inches). She also won the long jump for the third straight meet at an ECAC qualifying mark of 5.47 meters (17 feet, 11 ¾ inches), and Leonard was the runner-up in the high jump, clearing 1.47 meters (four feet, 9 ¾ inches).

Freshman Corinne Glass was named the Co-Rookie of the Year with Ashley West from Susquehanna University. Glass won the 200-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 26.89 seconds, and she was second in the 400-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 1:00.13. Moravian Head coach Jesse Baumann and his staff were honored as the Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.

The Greyhounds finished the meet with a total of five individual first place finishes as junior Allison Vanek won the pole vault at an ECAC qualifying mark of 3.61 meters (11 feet, ten inches) and sophomore Brianna Wright captured the 60-meter dash in 8.12 seconds in addition to Leonard's two victories and Glass's first place finish. The 4x400-meter relay team of Wright, Glass and sophomores Brielle Sutter and Morgan Redmond captured the final race of the meet in a meet record and ECAC qualifying time of 4:06.89.

Moravian finished the meet with eight ECAC qualifying performances with sophomore Hailey Kester the runner-up in the pole vault at 3.49 meters (11 feet, 5 ¼ inches), and sophomore Dana Fineman was third in the pole vault at 3.34 meters (ten feet, 11 ½ inches) to reach the ECAC meet next week.

Vanek was third in the long jump with a leap of 4.90 meters (16 feet, one inch) while Kester took eighth at 4.64 meters (15 feet, 2 ¾ inches) and Sutter was ninth at 4.61 meters (15 feet, 1 ½ inches). Junior Amanda Smilgis was fifth in the pole vault at 2.89 meters (nine feet, 5 ¾ inches).

On the track, Redmond was the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.54 seconds while junior Jacqueline Olmstead finished sixth in the finals in 10.55 seconds. Sophomore Giana Vecchio was tenth in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries in 11.04 seconds. Redmond placed third in the 60-meter dash finals in 8.22 seconds while Glass took fourth in 8.28 seconds. Freshman Christelle Reglas was seventh in the 60-meter dash preliminaries in 8.57 seconds.

Sutter was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash in 26.98 seconds while Wright finished third in 27.36 seconds and Redmond took sixth in a tiebreaker at the thousandth of a second at 27.776. Sutter was also fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.52.

In the distance races, junior Jennifer Smilgis was fourth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:27.89 while sophomore Emily Lambright finished fifth in 2:28.42. Lambright was also fourth in the mile run with a time of 5:27.48. Sophomore Jessie Goldberg took fifth in the 5,000-meter run in 19:11.36 while sophomore Clarie DelCasale was seventh in a time of 19:17.30.

In the other relays, Moravian was the runner-up in the 4x800-meter relay with the team of Jennifer Smilgis, Vanek and sophomores Devon Bedell and Alyssa Tallon posting a time of 10:30.04. Moravian finished third in the 4x200-meter relay with the team of Glass, Wright, Sutter and Redmond finished third in 1:55.60.  The Greyhounds' quartet of Bedell, Tallonn, senior Emma Pacheco and junior Jennifer Parodi was fourth in the 4,000-meter distance medley relay in a time of 14:07.00.

In the throwing events, sophomore Jenny Kratch was fourth in the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 12.65 meters (41 feet, six inches), and she was fifth in the shot put at 10.57 meters (34 feet, 8 ¼ inches). Sophomore Allissa Hoffman took fourth in the shot put with a distance of 10.61 meters (34 feet, 9 ¾ inches).

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Friday, March 1st and Saturday, March 2nd at the 2013 ECAC Division III Championships at the New York City Armory with the final opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships in two weeks.
