Sutter & Leonard Named Landmark Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Sophomore sprinter Brielle Sutter and senior jumper Micah Leonard of the Moravian College women's track & field team have been named the Landmark Conference Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

The duo helped Moravian capture its sixth straight Landmark Conference championship over the weekend at the 2013 meet hosted by Goucher College. Sutter earned Track Athlete of the Year honors at the meet while Leonard was named the Field Athlete of the Year.

On the opening day of the meet Saturday, Sutter, who earned Landmark Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors for the third time this spring, had the top qualifying time in the 100-meter dash at 12.88 seconds. Sutter also had the fastest time in the 400-meter dash preliminaries with an ECAC qualifying time of 59.14 seconds, and she was second in the 200-meter dash preliminaries in an ECAC qualifying time of 26.34 seconds. Sutter also finished second in the long jump at 5.23 meters (17 feet, two inches).

In the finals on Sunday, Sutter won the 400-meter dash in an ECAC qualifying time of 57.98 seconds and was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash in 13.14 seconds. She was the runner-up again in the 200-meter dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 26.21 seconds, and she ran the leadoff leg of Moravian's 4x100-meter relay team that was first in an ECAC qualifying time of 49.16 seconds. Sutter also ran the leadoff leg of the 4x400-meter relay squad that was second with an ECAC qualifying time of 4:06.94.

Leonard, who was named the Landmark Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the fifth consecutive week, won the long jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 5.69 meters (18 feet, eight inches), a career best that moved her to tenth place on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list that will have the top 22 individuals and top 16 relay teams at the end of the season in each event heading to the NCAA Division III National Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

On Sunday, Leonard won the triple jump for the fourth straight year with an ECAC qualifying, Moravian and Landmark Conference record distance of 12.14 meters (39 feet, ten inches), a distance that moves her to third on the TFRRS list. Leonard was also the runner-up in the high jump at 1.52 meters (four feet, 11 ¾ inches).

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Monday, May 13th at the Swarthmore College Last Chance Meet beginning at 4:00 p.m.
