Leonard Breaks Triple Jump Record at ECAC Indoor Meet

NEW YORK, N.Y. --- Senior Micah Leonard broke the school record and finished third in the triple jump to lead the Moravian College women's indoor track & field team to third place of 35 teams scoring points on the first day of the 2013 ECAC Division III Indoor Championships being hosted by Rutgers-Newark at the New York City Armory.

Moravian has 16 points after the first seven events of the meet have been completed. Ithaca College and Rowan University are tied for first with 18 points while Massachusetts Institute of Technology is fourth with 15 points.

Leonard opened the meet with a school and Landmark Conference leap of 11.95 meters (39 feet, 2 1/2 inches), and that would be her longest distance of the afternoon as she finished third in the event to earn six points. The mark moved Leonard up one spot to sixth on Track & Field Results Reporting System, and the top 16 individuals will advance to the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships at North Central (Ill.) College.

Junior Allison Vanek earned Moravian another six points with a third place finish in the pole vault as she cleared a season-best 3.71 meters (12 feet, two inches). Vanek's mark moved her into a tie for ninth on the TFRRS list. Sophomore Hailey Kester was fifth in the pole vault at a season-best 3.66 meters (12 feet) that puts her into a tie for 13th on the TFRRS list, and Kester earned the Greyhounds four points in the team scoring.

Sophomore Dana Fineman also competed in the pole vault, finishing 15th at a height of 3.21 meters (ten feet, 6 1/4 inches) while sophomore Morgan Redmond was 15th in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 9.39 seconds.

The Greyhounds will return to action in the second day of the ECAC Division III Championships on Saturday, March 2nd with competition beginning at 10:00 a.m.
