HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Moravian University baseball team completed a series sweep at Juniata College with a 9-6 win Friday to close out the 2023 Landmark Conference season.

How It Happened

  • The Eagles took a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning
  • The Greyhounds tied up the contest at 1-1 in the top of the fourth frame when junior catcher Connor Wengryn led off with a single and eventually raced home on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of junior center fielder Matt Madigan with the bases loaded
  • Juniata countered with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to move back ahead 5-1
  • Moravian took the lead for good with a five-run sixth inning. Junior shortstop Paul Croyle and sophomore designated hitter Jaden Clements started the frame with singles before junior left fielder David Olsakowski reached on an error that brought in Croyle. Madigan followed with an RBI single to chase Clements home. After a single by senior third baseman Mason Fisher, senior first baseman Derek Holmes connected on a two-RBI single to bring in Olsakowski and Madigan. The hit for Holmes was the 150th of his career, the 17th Greyhound to reach the milestone. Senior second baseman Chris Pow hit a fielder's choice that scored Fisher with the go-ahead run
  • The Blue & Grey tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh for a 9-5 advantage. Croyle led off with a double and Clements was hit by a pitch. After a wild pitch, Croyle was thrown out at the plate on a fly ball while Clements moved to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Madigan laid down an RBI bunt single to score Clements, and the hit was the 100th of Madigan's career as he became the 41st player in program history to the milestone and third this season. Fisher followed with a hit before Holmes connected on an RBI single to score Madigan. Pow ripped a double down the right field line to drive in Fisher
  • The Eagles finished off the scoring with a run in the bottom of the ninth
