BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian University seniors Derek Holmes, Garrison Koch, Chris Pow and Ethan Weber and junior Matt Madigan have been honored on the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Baseball Team for NCAA Division III schools.
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.50 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. Moravian has had 56 Greyhounds named CSC Academic All-Americans®.
By making the All-District Team, the quintet is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for CSC Academic All-America® accolades, which will be announced Tuesday, June 6.
The group has helped Moravian to a 13-26 mark this season with an 8-10 slate in Landmark Conference action under the guidance of first-year Head Coach Douglas Coe.
Holmes, an economics major and marketing communications minor with a 3.83 grade-point average, was selected the 2023 Landmark All-Conference First Team as a designated hitter, and he was on the Landmark All-Conference First Team in 2021 and 2022 and both the D3baseball.com and American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region 5 First Teams a year ago. Holmes, who was a Second Team Academic All-American last spring, hit .356 for the year with 52 hits, 31 runs, 11 doubles, two triples, three homers, 33 RBIs, a .451 on-base percentage and a .521 slugging percent. Holmes completed his career with 154 hits, 84 runs, 89 RBIs, 29 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, a .385 batting average, a .460 on-base percentage and a .537 slugging percentage. He's been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List eight times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Koch, an applied mathematics major with a 3.68 grade-point average, tossed 16.2 innings this season with one start and 13 strikeouts. In his career, Koch was 5-5 with a save and 29 strikeouts in 48.1 innings over 27 appearances with two starts. Koch been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List four times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Pow, an accounting major with a minor in management and a 3.81 grade-point average, was named to the 2021 Landmark All-Conference Second Team. This spring, Pow hit .360 with 49 hits, 22 runs, 12 doubles, a homer and 29 RBIs. He completed his career with a .331 average, 118 hits, 68 RBIs, 64 runs, 23 doubles, two triples and two homers. Pow been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List seven times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Weber, a marketing management major with a minor in history and a 3.77 grade-point average, pitched 25.2 innings this season with a 2-2 record, a save and 21 strikeouts in 13 appearances. In his career, Weber was 3-2 with two saves and 35 strikeouts in 41.1 innings over 25 appearances with two starts. Weber been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List eight times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Madigan, an economics major with a 3.86 grade-point average, earned a spot on the 2022 Landmark All-Conference Second Team. Madigan hit .333 this season with 40 hits, 28 runs, three doubles, a triple, 14 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. In three seasons, he has 102 hits, 84 runs, 41 RBIs, 26 stolen bases, 15 doubles and a triple for the Greyhounds. Madigan been a member of the Moravian Dean's Honors List six times, Moravian's Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society and a two-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.
