BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's basketball squad dropped its 2022-23 Landmark Conference opener to visiting The Catholic University of America, 71-46, in Johnston Hall Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The Cardinals scored the first four points of the contest before freshman guard Porter Kelly connected on a three-pointer for the Hounds. Catholic stretched the advantage to 11-5 but five points by senior guard Nate Dougherty on a three-pointer and a lay-up off a steal cut the deficit to 11-10 with just over 14 minutes left in the first half
  • The would be as close as the Blue and Grey would get as the Cardinals countered with a 15-0 run. Moravian did not score again until a lay-up from freshman forward Marquis Ratcliff at the 6:07 mark. The Greyhounds held Catholic without a point over the final 5:17 of the first half as the Hounds closed within four points at 28-24 at the intermission
  • Ratcliff had Moravian down just three points at 30-27 early in the second half but another run from the Cardinals, this one being nine straight points pushed the Catholic edge into double digits for the remainder of the game

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had two players in double figures with Ratcliff netting a team-high 14 points to go along with five rebounds and four blocked shots. Kelly finished with 10 points to go with three rebounds
  • Dougherty tossed in seven points to go with six rebounds and a pair of steals while graduate student guard Danny Cooper had four points, three boards and three assists
  • Freshman guard Joe Dupuis netted the first three-pointer of his career while freshman guard Ryan Burke scored two points in his collegiate debut. Junior guard Filippo Baldo, sophomore forward Nate Santiago and freshman forward Uma Kula all scored two points with Santiago adding five rebounds
