Hounds Run Past Goucher for Landmark Conference Win

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's basketball team broke open a tie game in the first half with a 14-1 run as the Greyhounds defeated visiting Goucher College, 90-74, in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening. 

How It Happened

  • The Hounds opened the scoring with a lay-up from freshman forward Marquis Ratcliff and a jumper by junior guard Alex Dietz. Freshman Porter Kelly drained a three-pointer for a 9-2 edge before the Gophers closed within two points at 13-11. The Blue & Grey pushed the advantage back to five points on a three-pointer from freshman guard Liam Cummiskey only to see Goucher take an 18-16 edge at the 11:20 mark
  • Moravian knotted the score 37 seconds later on a lay-up from Ratcliff that started a 16-1 run for the Hounds. Junior guard C.J. Weber  gave the Greyhounds the lead for good at 10:18, and by the time senior guard Nate Dougherty hit a lay-up at the 5:12 mark, the Blue and Grey has stretched the advantage to 32-19. Moravian continued to score and headed to the locker room with a 49-32 lead
  • Dietz began the second half with back-to-back three-pointers as the Hounds' edge reached a game-high 23 points, and Moravian was still ahead by 23 at 65-42 when Ratcliff drained a pair of free throws at the 14:35 mark
  • Goucher would get within 12 points with just over five minutes to go while Kelly hit another three-pointer to have the edge back at 20 points, 87-67, with just 2:37 remaining

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had three players in double figures with Ratcliff netting a career-high 30 points to go with 12 rebounds and two blocked shots for his seventh double-double of the season. Dietz scored 19 points to with three assists while Kelly finished with 17 points, three boards, two assists and a pair of steals
  • Cummiskey tossed in a career-best six points while junior forward Mike DiPietro had six points, three rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Dougherty recorded five points, three rebounds and two assists while sophomore guard/forward Michael Leonardo has three points, four boards, four assists and two steals
  • Weber and freshman forward Uma Kalu both scored two points with Kalu adding two rebounds while sophomore forward Nate Santiago had two rebounds and a pair of steals
  • The Greyhounds shot 30-for-63 from the field 14-for-31 beyond the three-point line and 16-for-25 at the charity stripe
