Moravian Drops 2022-23 Season Finale to Susquehanna in Johnston Hall

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University men's basketball squad dropped an 82-68 decision to visiting Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall Saturday to close out the 2022-23 season. 

How It Happened

  • The River Hawks netted the first four points of the contest before sophomore guard/forward Michael Leonardo drained a three-pointer for the Blue & Grey. Freshman forward Marquis Ratcliff put Moravian in front, 8-6, with a three-point play, and a three-pointer by junior guard Alex Dietz had the Greyhounds leading 13-6. Ratcliff hit a lay-up to put the edge back to seven at 15-8 at the 12:48 mark before Susquehanna ran off nine straight points to take a 17-15 lead with 10:28 until the intermission
  • The Greyhounds bounced back with a 9-0 run capped off by a three-pointer from Ratcliff as the Blue & Grey retook a seven-point advantage at 24-16 with 7:46 on the clock. The Hounds maintained the edge through the remainder of the half, although the River Hawks cut the score to a point once and Moravian's lead was just 37-35 as the teams headed for the locker rooms
  • Susquehanna started the second half with two buckets to take a two-point edge before Ratcliff knotted the score at 39-39 with a lay-up. Junior forward Mike DiPietro tipped in a rebound for a 41-39 Moravian edge, but the River Hawks scored five straight points to take the lead for good at 44-41 with 16:01 to play. Freshman guard Porter Kelly brought the Hounds within five points at 56-51 with 10:33 to go; however, that would be as close as Moravian would get the rest of the game 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had three players in double figures with Ratcliff netting a team-high 21 points to go with 11 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season. He also contributed three blocked shots and a pair of steals
  • Dietz finished with 18 points and three rebounds while junior guard C.J. Weber tossed in 10 points off the bench
  • Kelly had five points and two assists while junior guard Filippo Baldo also had five points to go with two rebounds. DiPietro finished with four points, three rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocked shots while Leonardo had six boards, four assists, three points and two blocked shots and junior guard Mark Howell scored two points
  • The Greyhounds shot 26-for-67 from the field, 8-for-24 beyond the three-point line and 8-for-11 at the foul line
