Greyhounds Open 2021 Season with Landmark Conference Win Over Elizabethtown

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's lacrosse jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and went on to post a 12-8 victory over visiting Elizabethtown College in Landmark Conference action to begin the Greyhounds' 2021 season under the lights of John Makuvek Field Wednesday evening. 

How It Happened

  • Senior midfielder Meaghan McMullan needed just 2:51 to get Moravian on the scoreboard on a pass from sophomore attack Devin King, and McMullan's second goal pushed the edge to 3-0 at the 21:33 mark. After Elizabethtown scored, McMullan netted two more goals and sophomore midfielder Emily Hoskin had a goal for a 6-1 advantage with 11:17 left in the first half. McMullan netted the final goal of the opening 30 minutes with 2:05 before halftime as Moravian headed to the intermission with a 7-2 lead
  • The Blue Jays netted the first two goals of the second half to close within 7-4 before McMullan tallied her fifth goal. Elizabethtown then scored three of the next four goals to make it a two-goal match at 9-7 with 3:26 remaining. King and McMullan would seal the victory with eight-meter goals in the final minute of action

Firsts for the Hounds

  • Freshman defender Keara Reilly made her first collegiate start while freshman attack Lexi Robinson added her first career goal for the Blue & Grey
  • Hoskin's goal was the first of her career while King had the first assist of her career to go with her goal

Inside the Numbers

  • McMullan, who entered the season needing just 19 points to become the third player in school history to reach 200 career points, netted a game-high seven goals
  • Junior attack Eliza Fantazzi and senior attack Breanna Federico each had one goal with Fantazzi also adding an assist
  • Senior attack Danielle Sullivan led the Greyhounds with two assists
  • The Hounds had a 16-5 advantage in draw controls with senior Olivia Clearie and junior defender Samantha Cherenson each recording six draws
  • Moravian also had a 33-23 edge in ground balls with Cherenson, King and McMullan each scooping up four
  • The Blue & Grey caused 13 turnovers in the match with McMullan leading the way with three caused turnovers
