Wylie Honored as Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Senior John Wylie of the Moravian College men's tennis team has been honored as the Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for his performance last week.

Wylie had a combined 3-1 week at the 2015 United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Tournament hosted by the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Wylie, who was originally slated for the Championship Doubles flight with senior Matt Tuorto, also saw action in the Blue 2 Singles flight after the weather forced numerous schools to change their travel plans to the tournament.

Wylie defeated Jesse Ewing from Shenandoah University, 8-0, in the opening round on Sunday, and he added an 8-4 victory over Justin Panepinto of Washington College in the quarterfinals. Due to all of the matches being moved indoors, the remainder of the flight wasn't finished.

In doubles action, Wylie and Tourto fell to in the opening round but the duo picked up an 8-3 win on Sunday over the tandem of Matthew Miles and Ryan Berry from Mary Washington.

"John played great tennis the whole weekend," commented Head Coach Alan Heverly. "He and Matt played great doubles that included a win over a team from a nationally-ranked college. John played exceptionally good singles defeating one opponent 8-0, and then coming back and winning 8-4 after being down 4-to-1 against a player from a nationally-ranked team. I have never seen him play singles that well. John certainly rose to the occasion."

Moravian has completed the fall portion of its season at 2-0, and the Greyhounds will not return to action until Tuesday, March 1 when the squad will play Summit University, formerly Baptist Bible College, at the Birchwood Racquet Club starting at 4:00 p.m.
