Greyhounds Top Mules on Sweep of Doubles Action

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team defeated rival Muhlenberg College for the second straight season with a 5-4 non-conference victory in Allentown Thursday.

The Greyhounds, now 11-5 on the year, swept the doubles action to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Seniors Matt Tuorto and John Wylie were first off the courts with an 8-2 win at first doubles for their 53rd career victory. Freshmen Isaac Schefer and Peter Demyan combined for an 8-4 triumph at third doubles to give Moravian a 2-0 lead before senior C.J. Widdifield and junior Giovanni Lombardi earned an 8-4 win at second doubles for the 3-0 advantage.

Demyan would push that lead to 4-0 as he was first off of the courts in singles action with a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles. The Mules earned victories in the next three singles contests to finish at fifth, fourth and first, but it would be Wylie's 6-4, 6-1 triumph at second singles that won the match for the Hounds. Lombardi would play a three-set match at third singles and was the last to finish on the courts.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 23 when the squad hosts Elizabethtown College in a Landmark Conference match starting at 1:00 p.m. at Hoffman Courts. Saturday will be Senior Day for Tuorto, Widdifield and Wylie.
