Greyhounds Top USMMA, 5-4, for 2nd Straight Landmark Conference Win

KINGS POINT, N.Y. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team earned its second straight Landmark Conference win as the Greyhounds edged host the United States Merchant Marine Academy, 5-4, Sunday afternoon.

The Hounds, now 8-4 overall and 2-2 in Landmark Conference play, took a 2-1 lead in doubles action. Seniors Matt Tuorto and John Wylie opened the match with their 49th career victory, an 8-3 triumph at first doubles. Sophomore David Wilson and freshman Peter Demyan teamed up for an 8-4 win at third doubles and a 2-0 lead before the Mariners won the final doubles contest.

Wylie was first off the court in doubles with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at second singles while Wilson pushed the Greyhounds' lead to 4-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 win at fifth singles. Tuorto clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at first singles and a 5-1 advantage. Senior C.J. Widdifield forced a third set, and then a tiebreaker in the final set before falling at fourth singles.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, April 12 in a non-conference match at Neumann University beginning at 4:00 p.m.
