Moravian Earns Landmark Conference Win Versus Drew

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team earned its first Landmark Conference win of the season Wednesday at Hoffman Courts as the Greyhounds defeated Drew University, 5-4, to improve to 7-4 on the season.

The Hounds had a 2-1 lead after doubles action. The duo of seniors Matt Tuorto and John Wylie was off the courts first with an 8-2 win at first doubles as they increased their school record win total to 48. Sophomore David Wilson and freshman Isaac Schefer posted an 8-6 win at third doubles for a 2-0 lead. Senior C.J. Widdifield and junior Giovanni Lombardi nearly made it a clean sweep in doubles before falling in a tiebreaker 9-8 (7-2) at second doubles.

Freshman Peter Demyan pushed Moravian's lead to 3-1 with a 6-0, 6-2 win at sixth singles while Wilson made it 4-1 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at fifth singles. The Rangers won the next match off the courts before Wylie clinched the team victory with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at second singles.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Saturday, April 9 in a Landmark Conference match at The United States Merchant Marine Academy beginning at 1:00 p.m.
