Men's Tennis Falls to Catholic in Landmark Conference Season Finale

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team had a lead after doubles action but the Greyhounds ended up falling to The Catholic University of America, 6-3, in Landmark Conference action Sunday at Hoffman Courts as the Hounds finished their 2016 Landmark Conference regular season.

Moravian, now 12-6 overall and 4-4 in Landmark Conference action, is tied for fourth in the conference standings with Catholic, which still has two matches to play. The Greyhounds can still qualify for the Landmark Conference Tournament if the Cardinals lose either of those matches next weekend.

The Hounds fell behind 1-0 with third doubles coming off of the courts first but Moravian tied the match at 1-1 when the second doubles tandem of senior C.J. Widdifield and junior Giovanni Lombardi earned an 8-6 win. Seniors Matt Tuorto and John Wylie then posted their 55th career doubles victory with a 9-7 triumph at first doubles to put the Greyhounds ahead, 2-1.

Catholic won the first five singles matches to finish, four in straight sets, to clinch the win. Lombardi rallied for force a third set in his third singles contest before falling. Freshman Peter Demyan finished the match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at sixth singles for the Blue and Grey.

Moravian will close out its 2015-16 season on Friday, April 29 in a non-conference match at Wilkes University beginning at 3:30 p.m.
