Moravian Closes in on Postseason Berth with Win over Elizabethtown

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team moved closer to a berth in the Landmark Conference Tournament with a 6-3 victory over visiting Elizabethtown College at Hoffman Courts Saturday.

The Greyhounds are now 12-5 overall and 4-3 in Landmark Conference play. The Hounds swept the doubles action against the Blue Jays for a 3-0 lead. Senior C.J. Widdifield and junior Giovanni Lombardi were the first off of the courts with an 8-0 win at second doubles. Seniors Matt Tuorto and John Wylie were next to finish with an 8-1 victory at first doubles, the 54th of their career, while freshmen Peter Demyan and Isaac Schefer finished off the sweep with an 8-6 triumph at third doubles.

Wylie made the team score 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win at second singles while Tuorto clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at first singles with his 43rd career win to move into a tie for sixth in school history. Demyan added a 6-1, 6-1 win at sixth singles for Moravian's final point.

The Greyhounds will be back in action on Sunday, April 24 when the squad hosts The Catholic University of America in its final Landmark Conference match of the season with the match beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Hoffman Courts in Bethlehem.
