Hounds Post Non-Conference Win at Gwynedd Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's tennis team posted a 6-3 non-conference win at Gwynedd Mercy University Monday in the Greyhounds' final non-conference match before the 2016 Landmark Conference season begins.

The Hounds, now 6-2 on the year, led 2-1 after doubles action. Sophomore David Wilson and freshman Isaac Schefer were the first off the courts with an 8-4 win at third doubles while senior C.J. Widdifield and junior Giovanni Lombardi earned a 9-7 victory at second doubles for a 2-0 lead. The tandem of seniors Matt Tuorto and John Wylie dropped a close 9-7 match at first doubles, their first loss of the season.

Moravian went on to capture four of the six singles matches to seal the victory. Wylie was first off the court with a straight sets win at second singles while Tuorto added a straight sets victory at first singles. Widdifield had the clinching point with a two-set win at fourth singles while Wilson picked up a straight sets victory at fifth singles for the Blue and Grey.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to begin their 2016 Landmark Conference season on Friday, March 25 in a match at Juniata College beginning at 1:00 p.m.
