Brockett Selected as Landmark Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week

TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian College senior Meg Brockett has been selected as the Landmark Conference Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for her performance last Saturday.

Brockett won the 3,000-meter run at the non-scoring, 20-team Ithaca College Bomber Invitational with an ECAC qualifying time of 10:12.34, which is 24th in the Track & Field Results Reporting System with the Top 18 in each event making the 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships in March. Brockett's time was the second fastest of her career and ranks fourth in Moravian's record books as she competed for the first time this winter.

"This was Meg's first race in a while so we both weren't entirely sure what to expect," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "We talked about aiming for roughly where she left off late last indoor season and she held back with the front pack for the first 1,000 meters or so. By that point she gained the confidence that she was ready to go and she took off to lead the last 2/3rds of the race and win by roughly ten seconds. It was definitely a confidence boost and now we're both looking at some of the big goals she's had in the past, including the possibility of NCAAs."

Moravian is slated to compete in a pair of meets this weekend with part of the team heading to the St. Joseph's College Winter Invitational on Long Island and the Seamus McElligott Invitational at Haverford College.
