Brockett Qualifies for 2017 NCAA DIII Indoor National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Moravian College senior Meg Brockett has qualified to compete in the 2017 NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships being hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Illinois on March 10-11.

Brockett qualified in the 5,000-meter run for the second straight winter and will run the race on Friday, March 10 at 5:00 p.m. EST after qualifying with the 14th fastest time of the 17 competitors in the field. Brockett ran a time of 17:20.20 on Saturday, February 11 at the Seamus McElligott Invitational at Haverford College as she improved her personal best by five seconds, which is the second fastest time in school history. The top eight runners in the race will earn All-America honors, and Brockett is just four seconds out of eighth on the qualifying list.

"As I tell virtually every recruit, our goal is to qualify as many athletes for the NCAAs as possible," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "It's a special experience and an honor to be competing with some of the best athletes in the country and the novelty never wears off. This is Meg's second NCAA meet, but she was just as excited when we found out she qualified this time as she was 12 months ago when she made her first meet.

"The field is very tightly packed this year," continued Baumann. "There are a couple of runners who are well in front of the field, but the brunt of the pack is all within a few seconds of each other, and in a 5K at NCAAs that means that on any given day anyone can compete in the top 8. Meg has shown throughout her career that she can step up on the biggest stages, including the end of this cross country season, and when she made NCAAs in the 11th hour last March, so we're going into the meet with high expectations."

Friday will be Brockett's second trip to the NCAA Indoor National Championships while she has run in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Mideast Regional the last four Novembers, earning All-America honors this past fall for a 35th place finish.
