CAMDEN, NJ. --- The Moravian University women's tennis team opened the fall portion of the 2021-22 season with a non-conference match at Rutgers-Camden Saturday as the Greyhounds fell, 6-3, in the first regular season match for Director of Tennis Mariana Freitas.

How It Happened

  • Moravian trailed 2-1 after doubles action with the Greyhounds picking up a point at second doubles on an 8-7 (7-3) victory by the tandem of junior Cristina Merone and senior Morgan Colver in Colver's first career match.
  • Rutgers-Camden captured the first two singles matches to finish to extend the lead to 4-1 before junior Maddie Figiel posted a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at third singles
  • Merone earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory at fourth singles to pull Moravian within a point at 4-3, however; Rutgers-Camden won the final two singles contests to finish with Colver's second singles match going to a third set
  • Freitas served as the Greyhounds interim head coach for the postseason last spring but Saturday's match was her first as head coach after seven seasons as a Moravian assistant
