BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's tennis squad opened the spring portion of its 2022 season with a 5-4 non-conference victory over NCAA Division II Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in Timothy Breidegam Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds had a 2-1 lead after the doubles action. The tandem of juniors Maddie Figiel and Cristina Merone earned an 8-4 win at second doubles for the first point of the match and the duo of senior Morgan Colver and junior Julianne Cassady finished doubles with an 8-5 victory at first doubles to give Moravian its lead heading into singles action
- The Hounds moved out to a 3-1 lead as Figiel posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at third singles before the Golden Bears captured wins at first and second singles to knot the score at 3-3. Moravian moved back ahead, 4-3, when Merone recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory at fourth singles
- The final two matches would both go to three sets with Kutztown winning at sixth singles to tie the contest again at 4-4. Freshman Rose Lombardo rallied to take the second set of her fifth singles match in a tiebreaker to force the third set, and then she won that give Moravian the team victory
