Moravian Women Earn First Regular Season Win for Freitas with Victory at Immaculata

IMMACULATA, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's tennis team earned its first win of the 2021-22 season with an 8-1 non-conference victory at Immaculata University Saturday for the first regular season triumph for first-year Director of Tennis Mariana Freitas.

How It Happened

  • Moravian swept the doubles action to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Senior Morgan Colver and junior Maddie Figiel opened the contest with an 8-0 win at second doubles while juniors Julianne Cassady and Cristina Merone earned an 8-3 triumph at first doubles. Freshman Rose Lombardo and sophomore Mara Stapleton finished the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory at third doubles
  • Cassady was the first off the courts in singles action with a 6-2, 6-1 win at first singles while Figiel posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at third singles to clinch the winning team point
  • Merone recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win at fourth singles while Lombardo won 6-0, 6-2 at fifth singles and Stapleton earned a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at sixth singles to finish off the victory
  • Freitas had won three postseason matches leading the Greyhounds as the Interim Director this past spring but today was her first regular season win as the Director
