BOSTON, Mass. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team rallied from a 13-point deficit early in the fourth quarter to post a 65-60 victory over Russell Sage (N.Y.) College in the opening day of the Emmanuel (Mass.) College Tip-Off Tournament Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds scored the opening points of the contest on a pair of free throws from junior guard Morgan Amy; however, the Gators netted the next six points for a 6-2 edge. Sage pushed the lead out to 11-4, and the Gators had a 12-6 advantage after the first quarter
- Sophomore forward Sam Osorio started the scoring in the second quarter and junior guard Madison Amy added a lay-up as Moravian pulled within 12-10. The rest of the quarter would belong to Russell Sage as the Gators scored 13 points and headed to the locker room with a 25-17 edge
- Osorio scored quickly to start the second half, but the Gators would end up extending the lead to 44-33 after 30 minutes of action
- Russell Sage hit a pair of free throws 13 seconds into the fourth quarter for the 13-point edge at 46-33 when the Greyhounds started to close in. Senior forward Kayla Yoegel made it a three-point game, 49-46, on a three-pointer with 7:38 to play while Madison Amy knotted the contest at 52-52 on another three-pointer with 5:20 to go. The Hounds retook the lead for the first time since the first quarter at 53-52 when junior forward Emily Markowski hit a free throw with 4:35 remaining. The Gators answered back, and the squads traded the lead four times until Yoegel put the Greyhounds ahead for good at 58-57 on a lay-up with 1:32 to play
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had three players in double figures led by Osorio, who netted a game-high 16 points. Markowski tossed in a career-high 12 points while Yoegel finished with 10 points
- Osorio also had a team-high nine rebounds while Yoegel added six boards and Markowski pulled down four rebounds. Osorio also added career highs of four steals and three assists
- Morgan Amy finished with eight points, seven assists, a career-high four steals and two rebounds while Madison Amy also had eight points to go with five rebounds
- Freshman forward Brielle Guarente contributed career bests of five points, six rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals while junior guard Jackie Kelly added six points
- The Blue and Grey forced the Gators into 24 turnovers while only committing 19 miscues
