Moravian Starts Fast Before Falling to Immaculata on the Road

IMMACULATA, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and led at the end of the first quarter; however, the Greyhounds ended up falling to host Immaculata University, 69-53, in non-conference action Wednesday. 

How It Happened

  • The Hounds opened the scoring with a jumper from senior forward Kayla Yoegel, and junior guard Morgan Amy followed with a three-pointer for a 5-0 lead. Junior forward Emily Markowski gave the Blue and Grey their largest lead of the contest at 9-3 with a lay-up at the 4:32 mark while junior guard Madison Amy hit a jumper to beat the buzzer at the end of the first quarter as Moravian led 15-11 after 10 minutes of action
  • The Greyhounds kept the lead throughout the first half of the second quarter with freshman forward Brielle Guarente making it a 19-16 edge with 5:09 to go. The Mighty Macs moved ahead 25-21 before a lay-up by Yoegel late in the quarter sent the teams to the locker room with Immaculata leading 25-23
  • The Mighty Macs took control of the game with a 16-0 run in the first 3:19 of the third quarter. Moravian stopped the run when Madison Amy connected on a three-pointer. Junior guard Jackie Kelly hit a three-pointer to end the quarter, but Immaculata had a 49-36 edge after 30 minutes of play
  • The Greyhounds were unable to get any closer than 11 points in the fourth quarter 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had two players in double figures with Madison Amy netting a team-high 16 points while Yoegel tossed in 12 points
  • Guarente and Kelly both netted seven points, a career high for Guarente, while Morgan Amy tossed in six points. Junior guard Ashley Robinson finished with three points while Markowski netted two points
  • Guarente also pulled down a career-best eight rebounds while Yoegel had seven boards and a pair of blocked shots. Markowski added five rebounds while Morgan Amy had five rebounds and five assists
  • Madison Amy and Kelly each contributed four boards
  • The game began a five-game road trip that will keep the Greyhounds away from Johnston Hall until 2022 when the squad hosts the Steel Club Classic on January 2-3
