BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad rallied from a 21-point deficit with just 8:31 to go in regulation to force overtime before falling to visiting The Catholic University of America, 71-65, in extra time in Landmark Conference action in Johnston Hall Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds netted the first two points of the contest on a jumper from senior forward Kayla Yoegel. The Cardinals answered with five straight points, and Catholic stretched the lead to 18-9 at the end of the first quarter
  • The Blue and Grey started the second quarter with baskets from sophomore forward Sam Osorio, junior forward Emily Markowski and Yoegel as they closed the gap to three-points at 18-15. However, the Cardinals outscored the Greyhounds 15-5 over the rest of the period to head to the locker room with a 33-20 advantage
  • The third quarter saw Catholic stretch the lead to as many as 19 points, and the Cardinals led 50-35 after 30 minutes of action
  • Catholic hit back-to-back three-pointers to start the fourth quarter, pushing its advantage to 56-35 with 8:31 remaining. Moravian would go on 27-4 run that eventually saw the Blue and Grey leading in the final minute of regulation. Osorio started the run with a lay-up, and the Hounds closed within five points at 56-51 on a three-pointer from junior guard Madison Amy at the 5:11 mark before Catholic hit a three-pointer. The Greyhounds continued to claw back and knotted the score at 60-60 on a jumper from Yoegel with 1:43 to go. The contest remained that way until Osorio hit two free throws with 12.5 seconds to play as Moravian had its first lead since the opening minute of the game. Catholic would tie the contest with six seconds to go, and Yoegel's final attempted fell off the rim just as time expired to send the teams to the extra session
  • The Cardinals scored the first five points of the overtime to take a lead they wouldn't relinquish, and Moravian did not make a field goal in the overtime, settling for three free throws
