Greyhounds Suffer Landmark Road-Loss to Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team fell to The Catholic University of America, 82-65, on the road in a Landmark Conference contest Saturday evening.

How It Happened

  • Moravian got on the scoreboard first with a couple of jump shots from senior forward Kayla Yoegel before Catholic got their first basket. The Greyhounds increased their lead to 9-4 after a jumper from sophomore forward Sam Osorio and junior guard Emily Markowski draining a three. The Cardinals cut the lead to one point on three separate occasions, but the Blue and Grey would hold a 20-17 advantage after the first quarter
  • Catholic opened the second quarter with a game-tying three-pointer but Moravian would retake the lead on the ensuing possession. Both squads would exchange the lead throughout the quarter, which ultimately had the Greyhounds and Cardinals tied up at 36-36 at the half
  • The Cardinals came out of the locker room and converted four-straight free throws until the Hounds were able to get on the scoreboard. Moravian tied the game at 45-45 off a jump shot from junior guard Morgan Amy with 4:50 on the clock in the third quarter. Junior guard Ashley Robinson converted a layup with 3:11 to play to get the Blue and Grey within one point, but Catholic would possess a 54-49 advantage after 30 minutes of action
  • Catholic started the fourth quarter with a 15-3 run to extend their edge to double-digits where the Cardinals remained for the rest of the contest

Inside the Numbers

  • Markowski led a trio of Greyhounds that scored in double-figures, contributing a career-high 13 points, two rebounds, a steal and an assist while Osorio recorded her fifth double-double by putting up 12 points and 15 rebounds and a blocked shot. Yoegel finished the night with 10 points, three boards, two steals and one assist
  • Robinson netted eight points and three rebounds coming off the bench while junior guard Morgan Amy recorded seven points and two assists
  • Freshman guard Brielle Guarente added six points, tied her career-high with eight rebounds and two assists as sophomore forward Gracie Hezel and Vicky Donovan each scored four points and Donovan added two rebounds
  • Madison Amy contributed three assists, three rebounds, a steal and one point
  • Moravian was 23 -for-57 (40.4 percent) whereas the Cardinals were 30-for-70 (42.9 percent).
